Be a Sponsor

Sponsor a Doctor or Nurse

Tanzania faces a major shortage of medical doctors, with an average of one medical doctor for every 25,000 persons, one of the lowest doctor/person ratios in the world.  Industrialized countries have approximately one doctor for every 350 persons.   This is largely the result of trained medical professionals leaving the country in search of adequate salaries and specialty training.

One way you can help us is by sponsoring a doctor or nurse?  What does this entail?  It simply means contributing to the salary of a doctor or nurse working at FAME Medical.  The FAME Outpatient Clinic will open its doors with the following Tanzanian medical staff:  1 Medical Doctor, 1 Clinical Officer, 2 Nurse Midwives, 1 Nurse Officer, 2 Nurse Assistants and 1 Laboratory Technician.  We will hire additional staff as the needed.

Sponsorship levels for salaries:

US $750/month, $9,000/year will pay the salary of a Tanzanian medical doctor.

US $350/month, $4,200/year will the pay the salary of a Clinical Officer.

US $400/month, $4,800/year will pay the salary of an experienced Nurse Officer.

US $300/month, $3600/year will pay the salary of an experienced Nurse Midwife.

US $200/month, $2400/year will pay the salary of a Nurse Assistant.

US $400/month, $4800/year will pay the salary of a Lab Technician.

Help our medical student finish medical school

Medical school and all higher education remain very expensive in Tanzania.  As a result, few young people can afford to pursue their dreams.  Thanks to the generous donations of others, FAME is currently sponsoring the medical education of Ahaz Jotham. Ahaz is attending medical school in Moshi, Tanzania at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center.  He is currently in his third year of study and will be coming to work at FAME Medical upon completion of his  program.  Help us help Ahaz finish his education….

US $500/month, $6,000/year covers medical school tuition and living expenses

 Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Foundation for African Medicine & Education.  We are eager to bring local and Western trained doctors and nurses into a collaborative relationship with one another.   Few Tanzanian doctors have the opportunity or resources to pursue specialty training.  By bringing in specialists from the overseas medical community, expertise and resources can be shared and services improved.  We have found that this exchange of knowledge  is a rich learning experience for Western-trained doctors and nurses as well.   The number of volunteers we can currently accommodate, however,  is somewhat limited. We are still in the process of raising the funds necessary to build volunteer housing on the grounds of the medical facility. Don’t let this discourage you, though. Write to us requesting our volunteer packet and or general information regarding the role of volunteers in the FAME organization.
